5 EASY TIPS FOR WRITING A GREAT AD FOR YOUR HOME IMPROVEMENT BUSINESS
BY CLARISSA KEMP ǀ MARKETING YOUR BUSINESS
Let’s face it. There are contractors giving the industry a bad reputation. You’ve heard stories from clients who have been burned by even licensed professionals.
How do you tell prospective clients that you’re one of the good ones? You can convey your message in everything you do. Here, we’ll start with advertising. When writing an ad, sell your business and your excellent reputation with these five easy tips.
- Headline – Start with a headline that grabs attention. Make the headline about how you’ll solve the client’s problem.
- Emotions – It’s said that people buy with their hearts, not their heads. Appeal to the client’s emotions. What pains are they running from and what pleasures are they running to? How will you make their lives easier, their homes more pleasant? Use language that shows you’re concerned and you’re listening.
- What makes your business stand out? Highlight your uniqueness. Have you been in business for a decade or longer? Do you do a lot of projects in their area? Do you have experience with special requests like garage conversions or wheelchair ramps? Do you price match the competition’s written estimate?
- Credibility – Include your contractor license number and any certifications. If possible, use short quotes from satisfied clients in the ad. Assure them that you’ll be professional, finish the job in a timely manner, and guarantee their satisfaction. Your expertise and testimonials will go a long way to ease the fears of hesitant clients.
- Call-to-Action – It’s tempting to mention all the things your company can do, but keep the call-to-action simple like “schedule a free estimate.” Don’t overwhelm the client with too many project ideas in the ad.
Bottom line: Keep it simple. Clear and concise messaging will reflect your straightforward business style. And your business will stand out…in a positive way.
